I recently upgraded my DT Swiss 370 hubs to a star ratchet type as I needed to change the freehub anyways.
I bought the socket tool to replace the older pawl hub ring. It didn’t go as easy as I would have wanted. Although I had some expectation that it would be hard as I read and saw videos about it being troublesome.
I ended up using heat and a 10-foot 3-inch pipe (very heavy lol) that I had laying around the house to remove the old ring. I don’t want to end up needing to do the same again if ever I need to replace the ratchet ring. Would bike grease on the thread be enough or do I need something like a copper paste or anything else to make it easier to remove next time? Thanks

You want to grease the freewheel/ratchets ? DT swiss has some special pink grease for that, some very light grease like SRAM butter can do it also, don’t put some medium/thick assembly grease, it will be too sticky and will not let the freewheel engage/disengage properly.

Having had to build a jig (both six bolt and centrelock) to hold the hub to get some rings out, I now use anti-seize on the drive ring threads. I’m using a nickel (from memory) based anti-seize. Not near the workshop for a few days so can’t confirm.
