I've not had any major issues on the road in ages, ie. potential accident via bike (mis-)handling or vehicle, so this one caught me a bit off guard.
I was riding my road bike the other night when I crossed over a seam in the road (doing 25-30km/hr), one parallel to the direction of travel (the sort that comes from doing road work). I'm normally cautious with these types of seams as I have had a wheel get caught on them a few times when there is a difference in height between the two sides of the seam.
See the attached photos for the type of seam (not sure if it is 'the' seam, but it is close).
Anyway, I didn't cross over the seam as expected. It didn't get caught on the seam and caused a tire to slip. Instead, it violently launched my front tire up into a wheelie, possibly the rear wheel also left the ground. I landed it, but probably more from sheer luck.
Has anyone had something similar occur with seams parallel to the road?

They had these everywhere in the DFW area. And they were terrifying. I rode in packs with a few people who got their front wheels caught in them and ate concrete.
