Hello! I currently have a Brompton P line with a 21T rear Cog and an ATS Speed Drive ( which gives me a front heel shift and much wider range. 8 gears total

Generally the speed drive is quite reliable, fairly smooth and I really like the heel shift. In the larger gears it does grind a little bit, but generally its been quite solid for the 18months I have owned it.

Simply put, I am currently considering a T line instead of my P line, and would like peoples thoughts on the 12 speed vs moving my Speed Drive to my new T line and would like peoples thoughts

How are the rear hub gears on the 12 speeds?

The 12 speed is only an extra £200 or just over £100 once the cyclescheme is in place.

This is a very interesting setup you have. I was about to rant how heaven this all is, but I did a bit of digging. The speeddrive only adds 300g, while the igh for the 12 speed adds 800g.

  2. Frankly I prefer the 2x than 3x for the same reason as on any other bike. With a 3x you have too many overlapping gears and are never quite right in terms of cadence unless you’re double-shifting. It’s a personal preference though. You could transfer the speed drive and eventually go for a 7speed mod if you wanted to climb mountains. But given you’re on c2w, the extra premium of the hub is nothing so to make life simple, go for that.

  3. Just noticed, I recommend you add an extra sprocket on your P and add a rapid fire shifter. That’s my setup along with the speed drive and it’s a true “performance” combo if you ask me.
