Hey everyone, just got my new Brompton C-Line electric few days ago. Loving the bike. Having an amazing work commute and it fits under my desk perfectly. Have gotten a few upgrades (rack, leather protection etc.) and a few still on the list (e.g. Brooks Saddle & Grips). I've gotten pretty good at folding/unfolding after practicing.

I just have one issue that I was hoping to get your feedback on. When I get to where i'm going, I detach battery then quickly fold the bike. Then i can roll the bike on the rack with one hand and carry the battery pack in the other hand. I really don't like this set up. Could someone please recommend to me a more elegant solution to carrying the battery? I tried putting it back on the bike but then it becomes unbalanced while rolling.

At the moment i'm thinking about getting a bigger backpack so when I get off the bike I can quickly detach the battery and put it in the backpack before folding the bike.

Anyone have more interesting or innovative suggestions?

  1. Orange-Brommie on

Maybe place the battery in a back pack? That would free up one of your hands. You don’t want drop the battery as it’s heavy in it self.

I carry my Brompton on my shoulder unfolded up steps. There is a pad under the nose of the seat.

I think with the battery and electrix front wheel motor your bike could be very nose heavy and unstable on the shoulder

  2. Just double checking, since you mention holding the battery in your hand. Are you aware that there’s a shoulder strap on all of the Brompton battery bags? I use that sometimes if I need to separate bike and bag for a while.

Usually I just deal with the unsteadiness of bag on folded bike. In that case, rolling it with the handlebars up (shopping cart mode) has been the most stable for me. You’ve already got the rack, which helps a bit with stability. (I have the old version of the rack though, so I’m not sure how it compares to the new rack.) I also recently added omni wheels, which seemed to help a bit too, maybe since they increase the footprint. They also decrease the amount you need to tilt the bike to turn it. I’m considering getting a wheel extender, but not decided yet because of warranty and brand choices.
