I would like to prepare a 26" MTB for bikepacking with my partner. The plan is to start with small overnight trips before doing something biger in a year or two. We live in the swiss Alps, so not exactly flat but we will try not to do any unnecessary ascent.

I have these two bikes and I would like to equip one of them. They are the same size and similar weight. Also same mounting points for accessories.

The Giant has a 3×7 Shimano Acera (I believe, it just says A) and I installed a NOS SR Suntour fork (because fun) but I still can use the original rigid one with more mounting points but worse geometry for me.

The Cannondale is full stock with 3×9 Shimano XT. Better group, but the Fatty fork would need service or replacement and that's not easy.

Things like saddle, handlebars, tires and all small things will be adapted if necessary but I want to avoid big costs (I already have to buy the bags and racks) as it's supposed to be a fun bike for small tours and nothing expensive.

What do you guys think? And important differences I'm missing? Thanks!
