  1. U.S. 50 across Nevada (part of the ACA Western Express route) is often hyped as “Loneliest Road”, but I found that U.S. 6 is a lot emptier, with a lot fewer services. The section from Tonopah, Nevada to Ely, Nevada is extremely challenging because of the lack of services (including water) for more than 160 miles.

The section from the Utah Border to Delta is 88 miles with almost nothing.

U.S. 6 is worth doing on a tour if you REALLY like empty paved roads.

Drove part of that east to west in a car five years ago with my wife, and as a European those endless amounts of empty land were just insane. It was a great experience that I often think about, but I can’t imagine doing it on a bike, kudos to you!

  3. I’ve driven it a few times, 110% agree. It’s crazy how empty it is at times. Hoping to take the trans-america to western express route next year, might divert to SLC though, which would put me on US6 in Utah. Will be nice not having to worry about gas though! Safe travels!

I’ve ridden across Nevada off-pavement. At one point my route crossed highway 50 and I thought “they call this lonely”?!

  5. Great pictures, looks like a memorable ride. I presume you wild camped off to the side of the road.
