So I just received my new one up comp pedals, the pins are literally just upside down screw on both sides? What am I supposed to do with this? They are sharp and will tear up my shoes surely this is not right…
This is their purpose, so your feet will grip better to them.
I would say, just use cheap flat shoes for these kind of pedals and you’re golden.

That’s how my MTB pedals are. They do eventually tear up the soles of my vans, but they grip like hell so it’s worth it to me. They do suck when you slip a pedal and whack your shin though.

That’s pedals for you.
I shortened some screws length by unscrewing them and adding some bolts, on my fixie ride.

I ended up going with ISSI pedals. They were about 45 dollars and are all plastic and don’t shred the soles of my shoes but I’ve never had a foot slip off them.

You’re free to take them out…

Normal. You’ll love them even more when they eat your shin 🙂

If you have actual MTB flat pedal shoes the soles should hold up pretty well for a long time. This is normal for flat pedal shoes.

Hey mate I ordered same ones and it chewed my shoes up pretty badly. Unlike you I didn’t think about it until too late. My plan is to replace the screws with shorter ones and see how I go

This is literally like every single flat pedal with pins on the market, did you not see pictures before buying?
I was aware of these chewing up shoes from the reviews, but I have a different problem – I get a hot spot on my right foot, so I’m looking to buy flat sole MTB shoes. 5/10 Freeriders are on a good sale on Adidas website right now.
The pedals and proper shoes combine to work as a system and prevent your feet slipping. They are designed this way. They are excellent at what they do.

I’ve had these pedals on 2 bikes for years. They are great and haven’t worn out my bedrock soles yet. Here’s a pic of the soles, and they probably have 2k miles on them.
