My disc brake stopped working, I got a flat and took the wheel off, and just messing around with the bike I squeezed the disc brake while there was no brake in it, and it has been stuck together ever since. And now after messing with it after watching a YouTube video my brakes don't work at all. I think I might've opened a valve or something and the mineral oil came out.

Before I opened the valve, the brakes worked, but they were too tight and dragged on the disc but after opening it they don't work whatsoever.

Bike is a trek Roscoe 8 so whatever model shimano brakes come with that.

I am new to all this so please forgive the ignorance.

Please help I have no idea what I'm doing

Did you accidentally knock one of the pistons while separating the pads?

I think you need to bleed your brakes. It looks like an air bubble got in the line. You can buy a bleed kit or take it to a shop and it should cost less than the kit for them to do it.

  2. most likely need to bleed it, plenty of existing videos or articles that cover bleeding disc brakes you can research on.

i can personally vouch for the [Parktool repair blog](https://www.parktool.com/en-us/blog/repair-help/shimano-hydraulic-brake-service-and-adjustment) or [Shimano service manuals](https://si.shimano.com/en/pdfs/dm/MBBR001/DM-MBBR001-04-ENG.pdf).

otherwise if this doesn’t seem possible for you to DIY for whatever reason, bring it to your local bike shop to diagnose & repair.

Lol . Learn how to bleed your brakes or pay top dollar at the shop. Certainly won’t learn much on reddit. There’s lots of detailed videos on YouTube.

I kno what you’re not doing. Stopping.

All jokes aside I would really advise to take it to a your bike shop and if you let fluid out at the caliper you likely will need new pads, seems like you atleast need a brake bleed.

Shimano brakes are easier to bleed, IMO. But you need to know as much as you can about brakes before you start messing with them.

  6. Happened to me after I changed my pads, all I did was ride it around and pump the breaks untill it came back.

  7. If you’re new I’d take it to the shop. If you’re reasonably handy, patient, and have some dollars for a bleed kit – hop on YouTube and get into it. Look up Minaar’s mechanic’s tips on bleeding Shimano. Can’t remember his name but should be easy to find and has EXCELLENT tips for Shimano brake bleeds.
