I noticed that many bmx bikes that use brakes has a design flaw. The cable to pull the brakes is not parallel to the seat stay…power loss and chirp/squeal . So I figured out a junkyard fix that is working great. No more squawk and much more power. I used two metal shelf post things and pounder them flat and used a hose clamp to mount them.

Quick edit since I can’t find the edit button….I choose to ride with brakes. This mod only applies to U-brakes. Many bikes don’t need it but some do. My current Cult Devotion 2021 needed it. Before there was an awful squeal every time I stopped and they felt slow/mushy. I noticed that when I pulled the lever, the brake arms were slightly flexing away from the seat stays. The little posts hold the cable in line with the stays. Also oil it when done. The wound loop of cable at the end there is just laziness on my part…
No squeeeek? No neeeeed!
Many brands included these on their complete models to achieve the same goal – I’ve only ever found it online as the “GT crossover cable guide”, though they were common on other brands in the mid school era

You would run the connecting cable between the arms through the guide, so the front of the loop is in front of the seatpost. That cable crosses over itself in a figure 8, hence the name crossover.
Then the hanger pulls it forward from inside the front frame triangle. Corrects the angle to match the seat stays and also pulls the arms in a more linear direction.
I still run one
They make a different kind of u brake that will solve this problem. Makes the u cable adjustable. You can also tighten the spring in each arm. I just guessing from the looks that’s a Springfield brake with the spring outside where you can see it. Look for the other type. Tectro , starry, rantz all make cheap ones that work fine.
Pretty cool idea. Could probably tidy it up using a jubilee with a screw instead of a handle?
The squeak is due to the alignment of the pads/rim
Man you have not hurt yourself enough with your bike
