I am looking to switch the stem on my Giant Revolt 1 2022 to a slightly shorter one (i know it is already pretty short, the bike is just a tiny bit large for me and my preferred riding position). I am a complete beginner, so i am not entirely sure how to measure the stem. Is this 80 or 90mm? Measuring tape is in Cm.

I’m fairly certain it’s 80mm, you could look up the spec sheet and see what it says for your size.
Looks like 80mm to me. You should be measuring from the center of the handlebar, it looks like the division between the stem and the faceplate is offset to the front a little.

Different manufacturers measure their stems [in slightly different ways](https://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d7/k4drd/Bicycles/MeasuringaStem.jpg). Giant provides the stock stem length for each size of your bike according to the measurement system they use:
Giant Contact, 8-degree S:60mm, M:70mm, M/L:80mm, L:80mm, XL:90mm
Measure your stem both ways and the one that matches the stem length for your bike size will be the method giant uses. If you buy a shorter version of the same stem, you can be sure it uses the same measurement method.
caveat: stem length is often rounded slightly. A stem advertised as 80mm might actually measure a couple mm shorter or longer.
Stems are measured from the centre of the handlebar clamp (like, dead center in the empty space inside the handlebar), to the centre of the steerer. This is likely an 80mm stem. It also likely says the dimensions (length and angle) on the underside of the stem, or somewhere else in very fine print.
Have you looked at the stem(not sarcasm)? It should have the size written on it. Either at the front on the cap or somewhere else. If think like as on the inside where the bars were on my stock one.
Don’t most Giant stems say their length next to the torque spec near the bolts?
203mm, at least that’s what I tell them if asked.
My Giant Revolt had a stem length different from the spec sheet, so I highly recommend you check the length written on stem. The length is written (unfortunately) beneath where the bars rest on it. You’ll have to undo the four bolts to pull your bars off and read the length.

stems are typically measured from center of steerer to center of bar. That gap between stem and faceplate is about 4mm in front of handlebar center.
