FB seller said her ex was a bike mechanic who put together the attached (parts list in pics). Will largely be using this for <10 mile rides on a crushed gravel rail trail. I think I should probably get wider tires for that surface, but just wondering if I bought a total piece of crap before I start putting money into it.

You paid a song. As far as putting money into it though, it could be far from over depending on what you want out of it. Even on fat tires, 10 miles of crushed gravel can be tough on a single speed.
