Walking in a very nice neighborhood the other day I found some bikes in a dumpster covered in trash, outside of a house that looked like it was doing a ton of clean out. Lots of free stuff on the curb but the bikes were in a dumpster for some reason. One bike was a department store bike, 2 were average looking Peugeot’s from the 70s, and one was this one. Had to find the front bike wheels & saddle separately from another part of the dumpster…
I thought the frame looked nice (Reynolds) and the components looked better than expected (Deore XT), but I hadn’t heard of the brand before. Looking it up online it looks like quite a fancy brand! I can’t find a serial number on the bike.
I was originally thinking about cleaning it up and using it as a fun errand beater. But now I’m wondering if that would be disrespectful to the cycling gods or something since it seems like such a classy bike. At the same time, the components look just OK by modern standards, and it’s 5 speeds in the rear. I’m also thinking about just donating it to a local bike coop that could clean it up and sell it to someone who would appreciate it more.
Would appreciate hearing more thoughts!

On the odd chance that this isn’t a joke, either fix it up, or sell it at a reasonable price to someone who will appreciate it for what it is. Someone out there considers this a grail item.
I think bikes should be a joy and enjoyed, and this one looks like it still has some life left!
Looks like someone swapped the original stem and steerer and for an old mtb one. Could be nice to find a classic setup again.

Bro use that bad boy for parts sheesh. Bikes got nice parts on it but I’m not the biggest fan of the frame geometry. The deore shifters look like they’re in really good shape. The Phil hubs are nice. The deore derailuer is nice. Someone really loved this bike. If you are considering building a new bike maybe get a nicer frame and use this one for parts. Imo that’s a hell of a dumpster find.

This is INSANE… It’s an Alex Singer “ladies” frame (back term for steptrough frames). Looking at the pictures it is :
* Great lugs
* Big Size with OG paint in a pretty good shape
* Mounted with Philwood wheel Hubs
* Campagnolo OG parts
* Mafac Brakes
* Handbrazed front rack
* And I think Huret Jubilee front derailleur.
So this is A FU****G JEWEL. It was probably handbuilt by famous artisan Alex Singer in France and could probably be worth a fucking price on resale. I can’t imagine you found this on a dumpster… You are so lucky dude, even the Phil hubs are worth an huge amount of $$$.
My advice : Take it back to your home, wash it carefully, built it for you and enjoy the true craftsmanship. You won’t be able to find anything that ride like that. Pure French randonneur jewel from the golden artisan era. Worth keeping +1000000

This is an old jewel. DO NOT toss it. Someone spent a fortune on it and it is from a very famous custom builder. If you can’t find someone to ride it you can sell it for quite a bit. I would keep it and give it a complete overhaul.
