You require a joining link (a split plate with two pins, the attaching joining plate and the clip to hold it all together).
If you bought a KMC chain, there should have been one in the box that came with it.
I was raised up in bmx, I’ve been riding actively for 20 years. I forgot how stupid some of us are.
