I ride toe clips and brakeless, and my shoes just can’t handle it.
The sole is too wide at the ball of my foot. It squeaks every pedal stroke and is getting rubbed away.
Even worse, the heels get absolutely shredded from jamming my rear wheel (which I only do occasionally).
Any recommendations for better shoes? I’m not interested in clipless pedals, because I want to keep the classic look.

What are you wearing now? Nice bike btw
My setup for the past 10 years:
– MKS Sylvan Track pedals
– Hold Fast straps
– Nike ACG Air Revaderchi shoes
The shoes are designed for mountain biking and hiking so have a rigid sole, but still comfortable to walk in. I’ve yet to replace any of them.
You can also try Five Ten Freerider shoes.
FiveTen freeriders are my weapon of choice
First of all you’re running single strap which is horrible second you can just buy some plastic cages from mash they are very strong won’t crack or eat up ur shoes third why are you foot jamming like a goober this isn’t macaframa
[Best shoes for a brakeless rider](https://www.reddit.com/r/bmx/s/LMJPaIaMLu) This is from BMX subreddit. I used to have a pair of etnies rooftops that were bombproof, I doubt they still make them it was like 15+ years ago
The only way is no shoes
Chucks + YNOT straps
What are you wearing now?
I have never had any problems wearing out shoes. I run plastic Eclat bmx pedals, Hold fast straps, and regular sambas or vans
Vans?
you need different foot retention. your pedals work well on old road bikes. i have a similar set up on mine but no way in hell if that bike was a fixed gear would i use your system to back pedal.
Velcro straps and Vans/Converse or similar

Just buy a brake? You’re literally describing everything that a brake would solve.
Flat pedals and straps?
Sambas or other indoor soccer shoes are my go-to
Indoor soccer shoes are great for this
vans bmx perris benegas white ones are a beast and take a beating but not unless you want a clean look, obvious reasons they get dirty asap
Why not go to cleats? They make spd shoes that look normal enough and you can have normal shoes at work or places that you need them. That how I ran when I bike commuted year round in Boston
You’re obsessed with the aesthetic but you’re wearing shoes made out of crocheted marshmallow?
If you want to keep the classic style you could go with NJS pedals, cages and straps. For shoes I tend to be biased towards Adidas Sambas.
adidas sambas have been the tried and true shoe for bike messengers since forever for a reason.
Low top, skate shoes with flat soles like vans, Etnies, new balance numeric, etc. or chrome industries. They are built for abuse.
Also, stop doing foot jams/ted shreds. Maybe change your gear ratio or add a brake if you are having to Ted shred too often.
I mean… You know what you need to do. You need to put brakes on.
