Pozzo Out
Too many fans kept saying that nothing was wrong at Watford.
You would be slagged off if you criticised the club on the Watford forum Web page.
Burnsy, Skylarose, and others simply not accepting what many fans could see on the pitch.
We are heading for administration
Us fans wanted the youngsters playing for watford and I think they will get there wish maybe it's a good thing because we have some good players
Why are all the games in the championship kicking off at 12.30
Brilliant video lads. It’s not particularly fun or easy to speak about all of the issues going on at watford right now but you’ve said it exactly how it is while providing a fair balance. Top stuff👏🟡⚫️
Kits are awful this year
Great stream and honest comments as ever Guys, TBH I don't do social media but anyone can see and feel that the general feelings around the club are not great, alot of future direction of feelings I think will depend on the performance and direction of the team in the first game at Millwall, after the results of pre season it could turn sour if things go against us, lets be honest they are going to bully us and I don't know if we are mentally strong enough to cope with it. Hopefully I'm wrong and we can all look forward to a successful season. 🙂👍.
I urge every true Watford supporter to watch this video. Great work, guys. In it together.
Good video guys. Personally I don't subscribe to the view that the opinions on social media don't represent the wider view. Yes if you only base opinions on one platform you may be right, but views are echod across multiple platforms from different accounts. Last seasons attendances dropping like a stone are also a key indicator of this
Great video fellas, a balanced honest chat about our club. Whilst i dont think Gino is going to change his spots any time soon, i personally feel he's earned the right to do as he sees fit. i honestly didnt think we would see many more signings until some young loanees will come in at the end of August.
I really believe that one of the biggest mistakes that Pozzo has made is the constant head coach changes. No continuity and every newcomer brings different ideas and styles. Players have to always adapt to new ways sometimes several times a season. I fear for Clevs.
Dreading derby games this season 😬
Please wait until we have made our final signings before condemning us to a relegation scrap! If we bring in a decent LWB and striker and manage to keep hold of Hoedt and/or Asprilla then we will be alright!
Times up for the pozos, we are going down 😔
Gino's gonna do what Gino's gonna do, but ultimately it's in his own interests to wake up and smell the coffee as to how rough things have gotten. The reason the early part of his tenure was comparatively good is that his interests and the fans' interests naturally aligned. Right now, they appear poles apart, and I think that's a misjudgement on his part.
First off, great discussion gents, I really enjoyed this. Like many fans, I am still grateful to Gino for the vast improvements to the ground and training facilities, as I am sure we all are. I have said for several years what really sickens me is the compensation wasted on so many managers, but particularly the lack of investment after the FA Cup Final and highest finish – I still feel at that point he changed, and instead of becoming the forward thinking shining light – he became greedy. In Tom I feel we have an excellent young coach, but do I honestly feel he will be supported in this transfer window? No. The treatment of Rob Edwards still burns deep. I remember how beaming both Jacob and Sam were when they first had a chance to interview him. I also do feel for Duxbury, I do think he meant what he said about supporting Rob, but he had the rug firmly pulled from underneath him. One big concern for me is how evident it is Pozzo (and possibly Duxbury) are so poor at sussing out a good person, let alone manager. Hodgson was a toxic dinosaur – how the hell did they choose to hire him? Rob, clearly a thoroughly decent human being – surely you want to surround your players with that type of coach? No, not Gino. Ego first. Every time. The sales of Kone, likely Asprilla and Hoedt (last years POTS) and very possibly Louza, yet again to be replaced by free transfers, very low purchases and loans. It is a failed business model. I have no issue with making a profit on players, all clubs try to follow that logical business mode but the reinvestment of a decent percentage of that profit has to be re-injected into the squad. Pozzo has failed to do this for the past few seasons, and the obvious result is a slowly weaker squad, season upon season. On the field, this club is in decline. If Pozzo cannot see that he should be in a different business. Again, the successes of the stadium and training facility are gradually being outweighed by the eventual demise of the squad… and again, this is a failing business model. A smart business will make mistakes, but it will equally learn from them and push the ego to one side. Anyway… Sam – I have that superb purple goalie shirt from last season – and it is a doozie. In closing, we all love our club. If I could turn back time to the Cup Final defeat and just tell Gino that continued success (although never fully guaranteed) has a far greater chance of growing, with a well balanced mix of player investment, youth and experience – and not recruiting average players on costly, long contracts about their talent and ability for this wonderful club.
Nice one lads. I have found social media (X) too toxic recently but clearly things not good at Watford. Good to acknowledge that without spewing hate.👍🐝
Whatever the greater priorities are of the man at top right now, I'm looking forward to the knowledge that with a coaching staff who have a genuine connection to the club, they will be feeling the highs and lows as much as the supporters. Hopefully, a few more of the young players from the Academy can be brought through to further encourage that sense of connection, and the prospect of a bright future.
I think everybody needs to get off Twitter.
There is no doubt that pre-season has been discouraging and the past few years have seen the club in decline. However, this is not unusual for clubs who have to deal with relegation. Indeed, bigger clubs than ours have endured relegations to the 3rd tier in the past.
The financial fallout from COVID plus relegation cannot be underestimated. There were definitely huge mistakes again in the 2nd relegation season and subsequent attempted promotion push. The culture of sacking coaches had a huge impact on player happiness, squad cohesion and player fitness. No doubt.
The recruitment has been 2nd rate at times, but there have still been enough good transfers to generate a very reasonable return. Even in the good times, the recruitment was never perfect and a lot of clubs struggle to get it right every time. Not saying it can't be improved – clubs like Brentford and Brighton have proven this more consistently, for sure – but you're not always going to get it right. The perception of instability and churn also will not help in the long run.
But we loved it when it worked. I find it hard to hate Gino and his methods even though thing are going from bad to worse. Personally, given how bad it has been the past few years, I came into this season with very moderate expectations, which is why, I guess, I'm slightly surprised by this recent outpouring of negativity and toxicity.
I don't think we've actually done anything wrong so far this summer and there is plenty of time for player trading left. Looks like we will have a new left back coming in this week, we have brought in a back up left footed centre back and replaced Kone with an experienced alternative for no money and brought in an Asprilla replacement in Vata for absolute peanuts. There is a month left of trading. Who knows what other opportunities are still out there, particularly if Asprilla goes for the reported fee. There could still be some good deals yet to come. Are we going to be significantly worse off than last season when all is said and done? I don't think so.
I know people will look at the money coming in vs money going out and get angry about that. But the club is cutting its cloth accordingly. We cannot both circulate fears around administration and expect the club to reinvest all its transfer takings on other players. There is simply a black hole that needs to be filled and Gino is doing his best to fill it as quickly as possible before it sucks us in. At least that's how it looks to me. If we have been promised that we will be debt free, this is obviously how we need to go about. I'm sure people would moan about it if the club were doing the opposite and the debts were mounting up.
Anyway, the competition is fierce. We are not a a big player. I think we just have to accept that we are in a difficult position and people running the club are still doing their best, even if we think it could be better or indeed isn't "good enough."
This will be a tough season. I didn't expect anything less.
Maybe, with Udinese struggling, and his father getting much older Gino is spread too thin. The Pozzo family have a big investment in both clubs and Udinese are probably their first priority.
i have no positive outlook on this season, cleverly will be scapegoat. Rinse and repeat and probably just survive relegation
It's the players and owners signing stupid udinese twits that can't kick a ball. I'm very much waiting for the inevitable League 1 next season
Where’s the badge on Sam’s purple kit gone?😂
In all honesty, it looks bleak. I'm really struggling to find the positives here, other than stating the obvious we need better recruitment and better players in the squad. I'm going to try and just ignore the negatives as much as I can, and just enjoy the positive moments this year.
A really excellent video and you have some very good points about uniting the fans. As you say, a lot of negativity on social media doesn't necessarily reflect the whole fan base, however, it does have a huge impact on how people feel about the club. I try to be as positive as I can about the club, but I have found myself feeling so horribly down about what fans say to each other and how some certain individuals will find any way of painting a negative picture. Another thing that start more and more is people @ing other people in tweets to try and get attention/more negativity. Things are not great. I am worried about the season ahead and there are some lack of depth in certain positions. However, there are some decent youngsters coming through by the looks of things and Vata looks a player. I am just so sad that the negativity is so bad, that any player we are linked with is instantly considered not good enough and have decided it is a bad signing no matter what. If Vata was being bought today, fans would complain…yet he looks decent? Give players a chance and stop complaining we need more players…but the one we get isn't the right player. Give Cleverley and the team your support. Likewise, don't just jump on rumours on who we may sell – incidently we all dislike the Bayat influence….who is one of Watford's best defenders recently – Wes Hoedt….who is his agent? So there is balance with even with the more decisive issues with the club! So let's not all just be negative about absolutely everything, try and see some positives and don't get dragged down by others who just moan about the smallest things. Keep up the good work boys and let's stick together.
We are defensively frail but I still think we will do alright. I like the look of some of our attacking play. We wont go up, but doubt we will go down. Asprilla hardly set the world alight for us and massively underperformed.
I am very grateful to the Pozzos for what they have done for our club but football is a very expensive business and management have to be very switched on to survive and progress. Most don't. Eventually the money and ideas start to run out. That seems to be where we are now.
Results this year are likely to be poor. I just hope that Cleverley is able to survive. My only hope is that we might be able to develop enough youngsters over the next few years and Cleverly is the right coach for this.
We need to replace Asprilla now he is going to Rennes in France.
