So after each gravel ride I clean my waxed chain with a cloth, that a chain gets more dirty riding gravel is normal, but this seems a bit extrem for a waxed chain. It was a new chain, cleaned it with silca chain stripper, rinsed it with water (as advised on the bottle) and put it in hot wax for about 10min with shaking from time to time, then I let it cool down until there is a 2-3mm of hardened wax on the surface and removed it.
Let it cool down, break the links, mount it, go for a "seating" ride. After that it was still pretty clean. 50km I cleaned it thoroughly, gave it liquid wax and it was still okay. After let's say a total of 100km since the hot wax it looks like that.
Are we okay this is not normal? Did I do something wrong?

The tungsten disulfide in Silca wax is black
This is probably just the additives. Does the chain get clean if you rinse it with boiling water? Then you’re probably fine.
Same with wax lubes, also gunk on chainrings and cogs
A couple of things stand out to me:

What do you mean by 2-3 mm? Where, how?
You also mention that you gave it a liquid wax which I assume is the silca secret blend drip lube. How long did you let it dry on the chain before riding?
I think this is normal for Silca wax. Mine comes out like that as well when I wipe down
So the consensus seems to be that it’s normal because of the particles in Silca hot wax, I’m reassured.
I will wait a bit before putting the post on solved just to be a bit more certain.

As others said, the tungsten disulfide is black. But it’s also the liquid wax. If you want to keep your drivetrain as clean as possible use only hotwax.
