Would love to get these mustache bars on for the bike I’m working on for my niece. Specs are right on but of course angles do what they do. Try greasing that ho? Use bow opening pliers on the stem (those pliers that open shit)? Wiggle it for days and hope for the best? Any suggestions short of praying for it and I’m game.

Would it be possible to file some meat off the width of the stem probably at the front?
Easiest way I’ve found for this is to use the stem bolt itself as an expander. Just remove it and screw it in from the other side while blocking its path with a coin/washer/etc, so that it presses against it and prises the stem open.

I did something similar years ago but I was trying to get a set of drop bars into a stem. In the end I removed the bolt and gently taped a cold chisel into the gap to act as a wedge and open it up. Once I’d got them in remove the chisel and use the bolt to squeeze it all back together.
