Does anyone have any experience of Hunt wheels? Opinions I’ve seen so far are very polarised to say the least….? Wanting to step up from the stock Cannondale wheels I have.

My gf replaced the wheels on her topstone for dt swiss gr1800. Minor weight difference, massive upgrade.
I’m not too familiar with Hunt wheels, but even wheelbarrow wheels will be an upgrade from the stock wheels on a topstone.
I have a set of HUNT 35 Carbon Aero Disc Wheels 2 and a half years ago, I’ve put close to 4000miles on them, and the only maintenance I’ve had to do is top up sealant and tighten the cap on 1 of the converter cap things on 2 of the wheels.
95% of riding has been done on road, with the odd bit of gravel canal paths/ trails due to poor route planning.
Given my experience, I would recommend them. However be aware that they’re the only “good” set of wheels I’ve ever owned. The rest of my wheelsets have been fairly cheap wheels used for commuting on a different bike.
I’ve had multiple pairs of Hunt wheels starting with aluminum all season gravels and then going carbon. I have both 650b’s and 700’s now. They’ve been great. Fast and light, huge upgrade from stock wheels. I’ve had the 650b set for three years and the 700’s for just over two.
Got a set of their mtb wheels. Rear rim started splitting at the spoke holes. They sent a replacement rim and reimbursed me for a rebuild at a local shop. Replacement has now split as well and the hub axle is broken. Haven’t heard back from warranty.
Don’t recommend.
I saw the same results when I was looking into new wheels, seemed 50/50 whether they were good or not – either really good or really bad. The other thing I noticed was that the customer service seemed to be better if you’re American, so if they were really bad at least you could get it fixed.
I’m Canadian so I decided they weren’t worth the risk. I ended up going with DT Swiss aluminum wheels and Roval carbon wheels, all of which use DT Swiss hubs.
The DT Swiss wheels I’d often buy off Merlin cycles for a better price and the Roval wheels I’ve managed to always find local deals (20%-50% off).
2 sets here, Aerodynamicist 43’s and Limitless 60’s. Only problem I’ve had is cracking my rear rim on a brutal pothole that cause a very nasty crash. Hunt replaced it though, took a couple photos and that was all that was needed. Customer service in my experience was very easy to deal with.
You can spend the same on wheels that have a better reputation.
They are just rebadged cheap Chinese carbon wheels. There are better cheap Chinese options out there, like LightBicycle.
Don’t buy Hunt wheels. If you can get Hope wheels get them, or get some secondhand hand built wheels. Where are you?
I’ve got the Trail wide v2 on a hard tail. Been great for me so far
I ran the Hunt 4 Season Gravel Xtra-Wide wheelset for about a year. I actually had no issues with them and really enjoyed them.
When I took them off to change to a carbon wheel set I noticed one of the rims had developed cracks all along the spoke nipples. Hunt arranged for it to be collected and rebuilt onto a new rim and also threw in a new free hub body, all under warranty. I sold them almost immediately after as I didn’t fancy taking the chance again and it seems to be a common problem.
People say their warranty cover is good – but there’s a reason why you hear so much about them in my opinion.
I have Hunt carbon wheels for gravel and so far they’re great. I know they’re made in China, but so is practically everything else I own. I find it weird that people are so put off by Chinese made bike wheels.
I have a pair of the aluminum MTB wheels (they were sub $500) and have been super solid on my hardtail for the past three years. Haven’t needed to true them, and they set up tubeless super easy.
Just get Light Bicycle, cheaper and better quality!
i have a set on my gravel bike. i rode them a bit, 2,400 miles this calendar year. they have been fine so far
I have the alloy 4-Seasons (700c), no complaints. Got them from the Hunt clearance for $395 2 seasons ago.
I have gravel all seasons and beat the shit out of them the last 2 years. Still solid, only broke one spoke and reinstalled trued it up and still running strong. Great value for the $ imo
I cannot recommend Hunt wheels – and the company – enough. I bought the 42 Limitless gravel wheels in April. So far they have been bombproof.
Their customer support is what really sets them apart in an industry where companies seem to be getting more and more aloof. They are very responsive and genuinely want to be sure their customers are satisfied. For example, a buddy bought a set of Rene Herse tires for his Hunt wheels. One tire wouldn’t seat and eventually blew off the rim. Rene Herse wouldn’t own the problem and tried to throw Hunt under the bus, saying the OD of the wheel was likely too small. My buddy called Hunt (yes, they answered the phone) and explained the problem. Hunt sent my buddy a return label so they could measure and examine the wheel. When they found no issues with the wheel’s dimensions, they returned it along with a free set of Schwalbe tires.
If you have any doubts, why go for them? There’s enough alternatives
I’ve got a set of their 4 season all road on my gravel bike I use for summer rides. No complaints so far done a 1000km or so without issue. Their customer service was very good too.

I’ve got a Hunt x Mason 650b wheelset that came with my bike, they are fine but I’ll be honest they’ve not had that much use. I already had a set of DT Swiss GR1600 and those are a cracking set of wheels with decent hubs. Occasionally seem to pop up in sales with a good discount as well. Can’t remember where I got them, might have been Merlin cycles.
Hunt 4-season X-wide on my wife’s gravel. Decent wheel for the price. No issues.
I had the same question as I wanted to upgrade from stock wheels on my Trek Checkpoint ALR 5. Hunt pulls me in with the price, but then I read comments like these. Anyway, I’m leaning DT Swiss 1800 or 1600 myself. Cost is more but sounds like it’s worth it. Hard to find anything negative about DT Swiss.
Have a pair of HuntxMason 650b aluminum wheels, ridden 60% road 40% gravel with over 2k miles. Rock solid, would recommend.
I’ve gone Ali Express for my carbon hoops several years ago, and never looked back. NA/EU overprices things like crazy. Look up LEXON. You’re welcome. Thousands saved in my carbon adventures, which extends into frames.
Depends on your weight, but the axles fail often.
I have 4 season x wide alloy on my Topstone 105 and they’re good, a noticeable improvement from the WTB’s they came with.
Hunt- made in China
And it’s not a bad thing, but you can get more for that price.
