Hi , I'm thinking of upgrading for a better bike than my 1990s trek oldie
It's a gravel Kona Rover Al , 11 gears 11/50
It sells for 600€
How do I know if it's good or if the replacements are cheap.?
Or if there is a lot of replacements?
Which brands do you recommend?
This is for bikepacking/touring
This is my top budget for a second hand one
Good deal ? I'm a newbie 🙂

How does it fit you? That’s the first question. I’ll guess it’s a 54cm frame.
For 600 EUR, I’d pay for a check up by a good mechanic. There have been 2 posts this week with cracked aluminum frames, so I’d want someone competent to check out the frame.
Did my first few trips on a Kona rove. It was absolutely fine, although I always go for 2 front blades as I believe that the drive chain lasts longer with that (if you use it right). But you’ll have plenty of fun with this one.
Sorry for dodging your question, but what is your current trek? What model and drivetrain do you have installed? Is there something specific about it you dislike?
I only ask because there is a lot to like about those old frames, many folks to do some small upgrades and proceed to cross continents.
My partner’s 90s Trek MTB 2×8 just needed a cheap wider range cassette from Riv Bikes and now she can hang with me on my Disc Trucker. I personally don’t think a wide 1×11 is the best choice for a lot of bike touring. Front derailleurs are stable, easy to adjust and the weight savings are negligible.
€600 can potentially buy you more upgrades that whatever this Kona my represent.
