Russia did not fail in a quick territorial grab operation in the opening stages of the war.That has been a huge western lie that is repeated over and over again, and then I hear it here of all places!
Russia never intended to take and hold. It did not front the manpower/materiel required. it was seeking to pressure Ukraine to the negotiating table to enforce the Minsk Accords, and it worked- until Johnson got hold of Ukraine and trashed the deal. Russia is now pressing on with however much it has to take of Ukraine to settle the issue of its own security- probably all of Ukraine, and it will do this SLOWLY to reduce its own casualties and to bleed out Ukrainian and western resources in the process, by which Russian determined end point we will get a peace simply because of this exhaustion. Nothing is going to change this now except Ukraine's early surrender- which would at least save Ukrainian lives otherwise pointlessly lost, and it might leave Ukraine with some independence of some rump state, although it would be better for Russia if Ukraine just keeps saying 'niet'.

I disagree on this idea that the conflict is solely due to the US pushing Ukraine, as Boris Johnson of the UK had a very detrimental influence (in my view) when he disrupted earlier peace talks and convinced Zelensky to break them off. Obviously, Ukraine itself has to shoulder much of the blame for the continuation of this conflict given the realities that they experience daily. France, Germany, and the rest of NATO are also complicit in the blood being shed.
The truth of the matter is that Ukraine's government is corrupt, self-serving and is laundering money for established western "democracies" to the detriment of their own citizens.
