In case it won’t wok, I’m interested in understanding why. Thank you!

Cues has to be with cues. Shimano’s new system isn’t backwards compatible with older/different shimano components.

they say cues only works with cues but for the cranks it doesnt matter whatsoever, ive used a cues crankset with an acoloyte 8 speed group and it worked just fine

I run a 1x cues with microshift advent x. The cranksets are the only cross compatible part of cues

While in general Shimano says that HG and LG are not compatible, in [https://si.shimano.com/en/cues/technical-assets-techdoc-techinfo](https://si.shimano.com/en/cues/technical-assets-techdoc-techinfo) there is no clear statement regarding the cranksets.
I typically use compatible chains from KMC: [https://www.kmcchain.com/en/series/multi-speed](https://www.kmcchain.com/en/series/multi-speed)
