Mixing it up from all of the broken bike posts lately. This happened yesterday at our local bike park one trail we’ve ridden a million times. Bike is spotless and helmet only has minor scuffs and a visor that popped off (we’ll replace the helmet regardless), looks like my husband took the entire force of injury onto his forearm and chest. Ulnar fracture, huge gash at his elbow filled with dirt and rocks all the way down to his elbow joint, sternum fracture and blood in his lung. Taken to the closest outlier hospital but was flown to the bigger trauma center shortly after.
He broke his sternum due to wearing a GoPro with a chest mount. It’s important to note that he was also wearing a Leatt AirFlex Pro chest protector. We’ve always known to wear a chest protector when using a chest-mount GoPro (however we wear them at all our DH parks anyway) but he still sustained a pretty insane injury. Just wanted to throw that out there if it helps anyone else to prevent a similar injury. Shit is wild, he’s got a few surgeries ahead, but he’ll be ok. Back on the bike by the end of this season, I fully bet.
Stay safe friends ✌🏼
