I'm in University and in the market for a commuter bike and I love the clean minimalist look to vintage/single-speeds but I know virtually nothing about derailluers, hubs, or anything around there

It'd only ever be used for about 7-8 miles at the longest, maybe in the rain occasionally if i get caught out without checking the weather and I want it to be a bit intensive physically to build better leg strength & cardio (I'm a veteran with a lot of nerve damage so low-impact bicycling is ideal for me)

I've seen Public Bikes, State Bikes, & Priority Ace thrown around a couple times as well as Plain Bicycle Co. all of which are pretty much in the area of what im looking for, My budgets around 500$ but I'd obviously love to spend less for a more reliable bike, I just don't know what im looking at in terms of specifications

The Priority Ace

The SS Black & Tan

Public Cruiser ST

Public V1

Public C1

Are the bikes I have considered so far as well as Plain Bicycle Co.'s second hand bicycles which I love the idea of

If anyone could provide info or context on things to be looking for specifically in a cardio/commuter intended bicycle it'd be greatly appreciated
