I moved from Europe to the US and brought along my more upright bike with me (from Ortlur). I have been having a damn hard time finding a similar bike, meeting the following constraints:
- Available in the US, not shipped from Europe at an eye-watering premium
- More upright with flat bars
- <$1k
- Shimano everything, including hydraulic disc brakes (i.e. no Tektro, cable-actuated stuff)
- preferably with front/rear full fenders, integrated dynamo, rack
I mainly use this for commuting and day rides, i.e. no overnight, long distance out-in-the-boonies adventures, but I do need to carry a good deal of stuff (camera gear, food, water, etc). I don't need the full-adventure stuff like cable brakes, steel, etc.
Something like the Btwin touring 520 or thereabouts.
Does this exist at all in the US?

Something like this?

Something like REI CTY might work. Won’t have a rack but well under $1k enough to add one and it has the mounts. Built in dynamo is going to be rare. With improved battery tech, it matters less and less
I think this hits most of your requirements, even hydro brakes and a dynamo, for under $1k is a steal! Add a rack and you’re good to go. Drivetrain is Microshift, but IME it’s plenty reliable.
