Hi All,

I'm looking for some clarification and help. Unfortunately, I cracked the carbon chainstay on my Trance Advanced. Due to budgetary reasons, I am looking to replace the rear triangle with an aluminium rear triangle from a Trance rather than the original carbon rear triangle from a Trance Advanced. My overall question is, is this possible? The reason I ask is that I found a spare part online, and when I reached out about using a part from the Trance on a Trance Advanced, the retailer stated, "Comparing the spec's between the carbon frame and the Alloy frame Giant are listing different fitting kits which usually indicates the parts are a tiny bit different in dimensions, etc., so we cannot recommend swapping out to the Alloy rear end."

What does listing different fitting kits mean? I looked up the basic specs on Giant's website and the all geometry appears to be the same:

BTW, I bought the bike second hand so I can't warranty it and Giant US only has a carbon triangle in stock that is $800.

Thanks for your help in clarifying.

  1. Is there a listing anywhere which shows what each fitting kit contains and to see how different they are? The differences could be inconsequential and at least half the fitting kit will be related to the linkage/frame/shock connections rather than the connection between the rear triangle and the rest of the frame which is the part that matters here
