I’m working on my hardtail and I’m finding out a series of issues. Apart of the chainring/chain issue for which I posted already I realised that the cassette is a bit loose and I’m not sure if it’s the plastic hub that is done, the cassette or if it’s just an acceptable situation. It seems to me a bit much, but i’m not an expert in this. Any suggestions?

I wouldn’t expect any lateral movement in a cassette
Looks like tired freehub to me.
When you spin the cassette, the axle should not turn.
If tightening the cassette lock ring no more than 40nm does not take the play out, You need to remove the cassette and check 2 issues …..
1. Is there play in the hub?, if so you need to tighten the hub up, it might be shot and cannot tighten any further requiring a new wheel or build around a new hub.
2. Do you need a spacer behind the cassette? You have 9 speed cassette is it a 9 speed hub? you need an appropriate hub/cassette spacer to take up any difference.
The cassette should sit firm without flex when the cassette lock ring is tightened on.
Your bearings are wearing/worn in the freehub. If you were to take off the cassette and take out the axle, you then disassemble the free hub to get to the bearings. There are 2-3 thin shims of metal (large washers) inside. You remove the smallest one, reassemble and test. If too much play still, you can keep that one in and remove the slightly thicker one.
