GPS file of this Aurlandsfjellet route below 👇🏻

You’ll also find my best advice for a great visit to Aurlandsfjellet. One perk of this mountain is that it easily combines with the many other spectacular rides in the area. So this really is s prime destination for a bike trip.

// THE ROUTE AT A GLANCE //
Next to the French Col de la Bonette, Aurlandsfjellet offers the best panoramic view I’ve experienced with any mountain climb (includes rides in 🇳🇴🇨🇭🇫🇷🇮🇹🇪🇸).
Altitude: 1306m
Distance: 16 km
Gradient: approx. 8% avg

// HOW TO GET THERE // 🛤️
From the Norwegian capital Oslo, it’s a 5h train ride with train towards Bergen. Get off at Myrdal and ride the gravel road down to Flåm. Alternatively, get the train «Flåmsbanen» from Myrdal to Flåm. Flåm is only a 20 min bike ride from Aurland. Alternatively, you could drive the 300 km from Oslo to Aurland (the shortest route via Gol).

// WHERE TO STAY // 🏕️
Hotels, camping or AirBnb in Aurland, Flåm or Lærdal. Just know that the tunnel between Lærdal and Aurland is NOT ridable by bike.

// HOW IS THE ROAD SURFACE? // 🚴🏻‍♂️
Tarmac all the way. When we rode it June 2024, it was nice smooth tarmac all the way from Aurland to the top. The descent on the opposite side down to Lørdal was quite a bit bumpier, though still tarmac.
