My bike lock was cut through and stolen over a month ago. I submitted my claim to Kryptonite bike lock theft protection which I paid for. They denied my claim saying I need cctv footage to verify the lock was cut through and that I locked it properly.

Years ago someone stole my bike and took everything with them including the lock. Kryptonite denied the claim because I couldn’t provide them with the lock. That was the last time I bought one of their locks.

How long was the bike left in this location before you came back?
I just bought a Kryptonite lock and was going to pay the $35 to have a Hail Mary option. They claim they pay the majority of claims but also said they paid out $150,000 per year or last year. That’s like 600 bikes or so at 2,500 each. That’s NOT a lot of bikes paid.
The Litelok X1 and X3 are almost grinder proof.

That said, people should really think for a moment how a lock company is possibly going to reimburse users when a $100 or so battery powered angle grinder can cut through their product in under a minute. The price of the lock doesn’t come close to covering something like bike insurance for life. The rational consumer should conclude that they’re going to renege or wriggle out of it somehow in most or all cases.
I’ve never heard of somebody having their bike loss reimbursed by Kryptonite.

This is why you don’t trust companies to honor claims like this. We live in a litigious era where you are technically wrong and it’s not surprising at all.

This sucks and companies need to be held to account. I know my meager purchases will not sway them but if enough people complain about this, maybe they’ll up their game.
