I know there are many similar threads here for taller folks, but any experience from similarly sized people? I’m 172cm (5’8”) with 81cm (32”) inner leg length. Puts me smack dab on the XS/S line.
Maybe relevant, I’m coming from an endurance bike geometry (my entry road bike from 2017, Giant Defy size 54), so the Aeroad stack will be much shorter than I’m used to, especially on the XS frame. But I’m fairly flexible so don’t think that should be a big concern.

FWIW – here’s the geometry comparisons to my current bike. But my current stem is 20mm longer than the Aeroad, so my effective reach (top tube effective) when also adding stem length is actually longer than both Aeroad sizes
You can set up both bike for the exact stack and reach
here is some results for the bike looking
The seatpost will expose longer in size xs, with more spacer installed under the stem.
Size extra small will have longer stack from top tube to saddle( the actually stack, from saddle to BB is same) compare with size small on the same setting. Looks pro but actually the same.
For bike control
Bigger size has longer wheelbase which means more stable while cruising on the flat road.
Also the corner control will feel slightly delayed. That’s why most pros like to ride small size to increase control cornering when downhill. Also they can took off all the spacers to make the ride position more aerodynamic.
Apologies for my broken English. Long story short
If you are not pro or getting old. Don’t wanna get all the aerodynamic gain to be faster for a race. Ride mostly flat roads, choose Size S.
If you are pro, climb a lot(which you probably should get canyon ultimate) and do lots of crazy cornering, downhill like 60km/h size XS
Can you test ride one locally? This is always preferable.
What is your arms/torso like?
I’m an inch shorter in height and close to 2 inches in the leg. I ride an XS in the Ultimate which is perfect for me, but think you might be better on the S.
I know it’s different models and dimensions but I wouldn’t want to be any bigger on an XS.

I’m 5’6 with a 30”inseam. XS SLX fit me perfectly.
Im the engineer of the New Aeroad 😄
174cm / 81cm inseam. I ride S. Should work perfect for you. XS would be too much of height difference especially if you come from an endurance geometry.
If you don’t have good core strength, I would just take the size that canyon recommends. I bought a S even though canyon recommended XS (I was on the border of XS and S), started getting sore hands (reach too big, saddle moved forward, too much load on hands). Wearing gloves helps but Im trying to increase my core strength.
