The black cog is made from a CrMo steel with a phosphate coating on it. Super strong and will last forever but the finish may wear off in some spots which may cause some surface corrosion. I’ve had one on a bike for six months and haven’t seen any but ymmv.

The silver colored one is polished stainless steel, and the silver/gold is polished stainless with a gold coating that’s probably a titanium nitride for wear resistance and aesthetics. I’m just guessing on the coating though.

I have a Phil Wood stainless cog on one of my bikes and the EAI CrMo cog on another and they both work great and will continue to do so for years.

get them now as EAI is no longer in business. My go to track parts shop is currently looking for an alternative steel cog supplier as he only has Kappstein now

    They’re all overpriced bling

If you’re looking for a quality cog just buy dura-ace
