A bike mechanic friend of a friend is trying to sell a Trek 700 (no idea what year) for $160. He said he fixed it up and should now be in good condition. I know next to nothing about bikes, and this would be my first. Is the Trek 700 a good bike? Is it a good deal? Are there any concerns based on the picture? Anything else to look for? Thanks in advance!

  1. For a good quality working bicycle $160 isn’t a lot of money. Take it for a ride and run it though the gears.

It’s definitely a good deal for $160 if everything is in working order.

  3. If the bike fits you must commit. Of course offer them a little less, because bargaining is fun.

160$? that’s honestly a solid asking price. you could certainly do worse for a light commuter. it’s honestly pretty solid, especially if you live in a really hilly region. idk enough about the wheels to weigh in on those but your mechanic friend has good taste in affordable components 💯
