Few weeks back I decided to get out for my first backcountry overnight.
Rained almost 3” the previous 48 hours, but wasn’t so bad with a plus bike. Carried way too much food & mosquitoes were super gnarly.
Strathclair trail in Riding Mountain National Park, MB Canada. 23km each way, with 2 back country camp sites on trail.
Rode out, hit a thigh deep water crossing at first camp site. Trailed has been maintained by staff & campground was in great shape.
Kept riding, the 2nd camp site was very muddy so I kept going to north end of trail. Figured that would be a great place to lunch & relax and hopefully get a breeze to scram the mosquitoes.
Arrived to see a heavy flowing stream. Quick eat & ride back to first camp site. After 36km, I set up camp & had a great evening.
Couple black bears on trail, hollered “hey bear” to get noticed and they scurried away.
Woke up & rode 8km back to start point, spent the afternoon kayaking and exploring back roads by truck.
Bison photo was from the truck!
Great time
