During the process I just assumed the chainring catcher was for aesthetics and I thought it was ugly and it was also bent so in the trash it went. After assembling everything and having the chain continue to fall over the chainring I am now beginning to see that friction gears needed some, well, guardrails … and it is perhaps not just for looks. It was pretty bent up anyway so I don't feel "that" bad about tossing it. C'est La vie. Is there a newer better looking chain catcher I could attach or do you have recommendations on replacement(s).
