Both bikes are inexpensive and poor in quality. They’re fine if the use case is simply riding around the block, but if you’ve the belief your son has interest in learning to do tricks, neither will cut it. He’d probably hurt himself as a result of the bike’s poor quality (a part failing) versus his own inability/learning. If this is the case, check out your local bike shop(s) and marketplace. Best of luck, and good on you dad for having the motive to get your son a cool bike!

Bikes are worse than cars. Neither are a bike worth fixing up because they are base model, wal mart offerings made of the cheaper materials. Find something on FB marketplace with the fix up budget that is made from 4130 Chromoly steel, avoid hi-ten steel or it will be a money pit you cannot recoup anything out of, find an already built for sale bike needing grips and pedals.
