Apologies in advance for the long post.

A few weeks back I had two bikes stolen from my detached garage. One was a friend’s stock Giant Escape 3 disc and one was my baby, my Cannondale Topstone 1. It was also pretty stock with lots of little accessories.

Anyways, by no small miracle, I was able to recover both bikes over the next two weeks or so. The Giant at a local swap meet and the Cannondale on Facebook marketplace. Both are great stories in their own regard, but not the subject of the post.

The folks that either stole or fenced my Cannondale swapped out several components; I am looking for advice on whether returning the bike to OEM is worth the hassle/money or if I should just be grateful to have my bike back.

As far as I can tell, they hot swapped the rims (changed from 700c to 650b), tires, hubs, rotors, rear cassette, pedals, saddle and grip tape. Pedals, saddle and grip tape will be replaced regardless. Reached out to Cannondale to see if could buy two new “wheelsets” but they said to reach out to each component manufacturer.

Attached are the pre and post theft photos

TL;DR My bike was stolen and recovered and I would like advice on if I should try to return it to pre-theft condition

Don’t see the need to change much. I would change the touchpoints just for psychological reasons lol. The fizik saddle seems insanely big or is it the photo?
They even upgraded your tires and added a fancy red bottlecage! That’s a win.

Instead of going OEM i would suggest to bling it up with parts you like.

I’d like to hear those recovery stories.

You can maybe sell the Fizik to recover some of the costs of restoring it.

For me, I would just run it as-is — except the wheels. I’d want OEM size wheels, possibly upgraded if I’m going through the trouble anyway?

Congrats on the recovery, sorry to hear about the lost components. Definitely take the opportunity to upgrayyed if you can.
