  1. On the pedal axle on the side with the pedal there is a nut, you can use a narrow spanner on this to loosen

  2. 15mm wrench on the flat by the crank arm. Put the bike on the ground with the opposite crank arm pointing up to the handlebars about 45°. Reach over the top tube and put the wrench on the flat so it points to the back of the bike. Push down. Mirror this for the other side.

  3. You need a [literal pedal spanner](https://www.parktool.com/en-int/product/home-mechanic-pedal-wrench-pw-5) which acts on the axle flats between the crank arm and the pedal platform.

You may be able to improvise with a normal spanner, but remember that the non-drive-side pedal (that is, the one on the side without the chain) has a reverse (left-handed) thread, so needs to be turned clockwise (from the pedal side) to undo. The drive side pedal is a normal, right-handed thread.

    See title of this sub…

Open-ended wrench on the pedal. Make sure you use the wrench that exactly fits. And remember the left pedal is reverse-threaded.

  5. Always turn towards the back of the bike to remove pedals. Turn towards the front to tighten them. Use a proper pedal wrench.
