Loose? There is nothing holding the wheel in at all!
You need a front ‘skewer’ – most common would be a ‘quick release’ skewer, that has a handle to open and close it. But for a kid’s bike, I would strongly recommend you get an ‘allen key’ or ‘hex key’ skewer. These tighten with an allen key, and are less likely to come loose.

Your local bike shop very likely stocks something like this, for not very much money. They would be able to double check the size is right. It’s most likely that the bike has a standard 100mm front hub, but kids bikes can be weird …
