I normally will apply a good amount of force towered or away from the wheel (without hitting it obviously) and see if the chain falls off my front chainring. If it falls I will usually adjust my chain a little and re-test

Can only be totally silent with premium components and a waxed chain. That said, this is perfect tension and sounds healthy

Watch your fingers doing stuff like this.. especially spinning the wheel this fast via the cranks
you would not be the first to get them caught and (nearly) amputate something
