Hello! I’ve ridden bikes casually before but will be entering the world of more regular cycling training to prepare for a weeklong bike tour in October that will be on roads and light trails. I’d love some input into the best used bike for the money from some of the ones available around me. This bike will definitely be used to train on roads/bike paths with some light off road/trail usage, and I MIGHT consider checking in this bike on the airplane for my bike tour (vs. renting a bike on location). I’m a 5’1” woman. I doubt I’ll be a long term biker so I’m somewhat interested in higher resale value too!
Thanks so much for your insight:

The Liv or the Trek Marlin are the most modern and fair prices. The Trek 820 is super outdated and too much money for what it is. Similarly with the Trek Verve 2.
The Polygon Cleo is nice, but not any more than the Marlin or Liv priced $100 less.

What type of off road trails?
Flat gravel or flat smooth hard pack dirt roads? Then for mostly road and some of those types of trails you could get a gravel bike with drop or flat bars or a hybrid bike with flat bars, both with lighter rigid forks.
Mountain bike with suspension forks would be for often hilly trails or even flat trails either with many bumps such as rocks and tree roots.

Marlin, Liv, Polygon are all good mountain bikes with disc brakes.
820 is an older mountain bike with rim brakes so pass on that one for one of the newer better mountain bikes.
Verve is a comfort hybrid bike with a rigid fork and rim brakes but pass on that one for a better fitness hybrid instead of comfort.

Hopefully the bikes frame sizes are listed, you may need an XS or XXS.
