    This happened to my bike today. I’m very new to biking so I’m just curious how much something like this costs to fix

      Need a new rear derailleur.  They’re cheap for 7 speed bikes, but you’ll need to know how to replace it and then adjust the shifting.  Or pay a bike shop to do it.

      How did it break?  Did you drop it on the drive side (chain side)?  Never do that.

      That device dangling on your chain is normally attached to the bike – it’s called the rear derailleur. Sometimes people call it a “mech”. It looks broken. You’ll probably need to replace it, with a usable 7 speed derailleur. Cost of both bike part and labor will come in under $100, and likely less. I just looked up prices, and you can get a mech for $20. Labor will be $20-30, I would guess.

      It’s a $10-20 part, I bought a 6 speed one some time ago and 7 speed like yours costs the same

      You may want a replacement hangar ($1-2 from China) because chances are it’s bent. The alternative is a hangar alignment tool which is >$100 for the park tool DAG3

      You would need allen keys to get the derailleur onto the hangar

      And a screwdriver to adjust the 2 limit screws so the bike shifts properly. Preferably the bike is on a work stand when doing this but you can make do with a human assistant to hold it up.
