I was able to travel to Iceland in July of 2022 to participate in the 200km gravel bike race, The Rift. I originally signed up for the event in 2020, but COVID 19 changed those plans, and I was able to defer until this year.
The course is a lollipop shaped route that goes into some incredibly scenic terrain with multiple water crossings.
After the midway checkpoint I came across Tom Gloag, an up and coming racer from Great Britain who had a flat tire and tried to help him out. His video from the race is here: https://youtu.be/rbgEIaZzn6Q
We stayed at an AirBnB on a farm a few kms from the start line. The location was also a good central location for sightseeing after the race.
My photo was on the home screen for The Rift website for 2023.

Newbie here! Did any of you change your socks after the water crossings? What jacket/rain gear do you recommend?
Nicely done Brent! What an event! Enjoyed your videography.
Nice Job!!! Looks awesome.
Great video. Doing my first in 2023! Mind telling me what distance you were at the 11:58 mark?
Many with flat… All going with so risky tires or not tubless at all?
Great video. Super helpful in advance of my doing it in 2023. Glad you had fun.
I will love to do it!
Stunning country, glad I stumbled over this one…defenitly on my bucketlist…👍🏻

Such a fun video to watch! The scenery is amazing. Thanks for putting this together.
Hi Brent – is there a way I can contact you? Just some questions!
Mesmerizing vid
I was there too!
Near the wind turbines, I remember those terrible baby head stones at the northernmost part of the race… Even with suspension fork, it was bones shattering !
I'm currently on a world tour with the same bike used for the Rift! Thanks for the video!
So is drafting against the rules like in triathlon?
loved it! tks for it
A stunning video that captures the beauty of Iceland rarely seen. Hope your ride was as beautiful as the country. Thanks for posting this living art. The music was well chosen too as are the scenes changing to the beat of the music!
In your estimation, what was the ideal tire width for that event.?
My Partner and I rode the 65 miler. Great to revisit the event. Nice job and thanks.
Proly the 10th time Im watching your vid. So amazing. One question. Do they give you map route to follow that you can download or road is marked? Im finally doing it this coming July. Thanks
Did you forget to install your head unit?
