When I was walking in the Coventry (UK) city center… A guy in a black mask and black outfit arrived at the city center on his black racing motorcycle. There were many people there. He snatched a lady’s mobile phone from her hand. Then he raced his motorbike through all the shop passages, just like in the movies, and got away. All this happened right in front of me. The lady got injured on her hand when he snatched the phone, and she was crying. There were cops nearby, but they couldn’t do anything. There are so many such incidents happening in the UK. I saw similar videos from other countries like the USA. In the UK, I experienced it myself, and many Malayalis told me about their experiences of being victims of theft and home robbery. Thieves in the UK treat theft as a job, coming prepared with all necessary tools. I think London isn’t safe nowadays. As these kinds of videos spread, many people start to wonder if Europe is like this everywhere. Since our subject is Sweden, I’ll try to explain the situation here. When I was in the UK, I always held my mobile phone tightly with both hands whenever I took it out of my pocket. We were scared of thieves attacking us. We didn’t go out at night because of this situation. Let’s discuss the situation in Sweden. I haven’t seen or experienced any such situations in Sweden since I arrived here. However, we can’t say that theft doesn’t happen here. But compared to the UK, theft issues are much less common in Sweden. In Sweden, theft issues are much lower compared to India as well. But if you refer to the data on Google, the theft rate here would be high. Because all issues are properly reported to the police here. People believe in the police department, and the police do a great job here. That’s why we see more reported crime or theft issues here. I live in Gothenburg, the second largest city in Sweden. It’s a moderately sized city that also includes some village areas Here, it is safe. However, there are some bicycle thefts happening in certain places. Bicycle theft is common in Europe. People from our state often wonder why bicycle theft is common in Europe. In Kerala, nobody steals bicycles, even if they don’t have a lock. But in Europe, bicycles are more widely used. So there is a high demand for bicycles. In Europe, having a bicycle can even help you secure a job. Here, there are roads, infrastructure, and cycle paths for this purpose. That’s why bicycles have high demand here. Here, bicycles are used just like motorbikes are used in India. That’s why thieves can easily sell them on online platforms. I’ve heard about bicycle theft in Sweden. But I don’t have any direct experience with it. Theft mostly happens in big cities like Stockholm. There are also a few cases in Gothenburg as well. However, there is no significant safety threat in Sweden. You can walk out anytime without any fear. We do walk out at night as well. We live very close to the city. I haven’t experienced anything bad. A country can be kept safe in two ways. 1-Humans develop culturally and become good. Then society will become safe and good automatically. If people are not culturally developed, then strict rules are applied, and they obey these rules out of fear. These are the two ways to ensure safety and order in society. In Europe, especially in Scandinavian countries, most countries are culturally developed. Here safety is because of the people, not because of strict police actions. Here, people follow rules and lead the society. In such societies, they prioritize human rights and rules. If everyone is like this, society will function better overall. In such societies, if illegal migrants commit wrongdoing, the people of that society address it while upholding human rights and legal principles. Sometimes, they even advise a thief not to repeat their actions. They don’t resort to mob attacks like in our state. But this culture has two sides. Negative and positive In our state, if someone commits a crime or theft, we people often punish them on the spot. In some cases, we feel it is appropriate. Because some people refrain from committing crimes or thefts due to fear of societal consequences. But on the other hand, this approach can have negative consequences. Mob attacks can happen because of this approach. Here, people mostly try to deal with it legally. Sometimes we might wonder, "Are people in Europe foolish for not physically confronting the thief?" Actually, they are showing their culture even in these situations. They can’t behave differently only in these situations. When we join such societies, we must accept the positives here. Because we choose to live in this society for its positive aspects. So we have a responsibility not to destroy these positive things ourselves. There is a reason to say this. I saw some videos from London where Indians were seen destroying public property in the name of celebration. If you go through the comments on that video, Europeans and British people were criticizing Indians harshly. Before that, they used to talk about other countries. Now they have started discussing Indians. It will have a negative impact on our migration and life here. Already, all countries have started expressing concerns about migration.
