I’m writing this post to help people who are considering to buy a Pelago Stavanger, but are unsure about the sizing. In many reviews and previous reddit posts, I’ve seen people talking about the sizing of this bike, with some people saying that it’s really big, while others say the sizing is perfect. I was in doubt for weeks, cause I knew I wanted this frame, but couldn’t decide on which size. I’m 185cm tall, with long legs and a relatively short torso. This places me well into the 57 frame, but I didn’t like how big it looked on the pictures (saddle level with the bars) as well as the reach and stack dimensions in the charts. I also contacted Pelago’s customer service about this, and after some thoughtful questions from them they basically said: if you’re comfortable with a saddle to bar drop, go for it.
About the frame: I love how it looks and feels, build quality seems top notch. The frame feels quite stiff but not uncomfortable. Paint job is amazing and I love the decals and overall attention to detail. The one thing I didn’t like so much was the amount of paint inside the bottom bracket threads and faces. Pelago is really clear about that you need to face and tap it, though. Without prepping, the bottom bracket was really stiff, now it spins for 10 seconds or so. It can accomodate a dropper post, and can also be fitted with a carbon fork (many steel frames only take a 1 1/8″ steerer). It ticks all the boxes for me. I went with a 1×12 Ltwoo groupset to check it out basically, to see if it’s any good. I must say it holds up quite well so far. I built a 40mm deep carbon wheelset for the frame, and went with a 100mm stem. Don’t hesitate to ask me about the build or the frame!

So I did! Long story short: best bike I’ve ever owned. It’s a cliché I guess, but it really handles like a dream. It’s quite fast on the road but suprisingly agile and capable on offroad/single track. I don’t think that the “right” size (57) would be bad per se, but just different. It will be more stable and more comfortable I think. So to be clear: I’m not saying to always size down with this particular frame, but if you prefer a more agressive position with a saddle to bar drop, and like a more lively and agile handling bike: don’t be afraid to size down.
