    What sort of backpacking were you thinking of? Aluminum is going to be reasonably light compared to the steel Kona or Roves.. but it really depends on what you’re doing. Lots of offroad? Sea 2 Tree? KVR? Circle route?

    Carbon vs aluminum on a more hardcore hardtail often isnt worth it / not much weight savings.

    Seating position can be hard on you on a longer downhill style bike. They are made for downhill vs pedaling , If you’re truly planning long term bike packing.

    For hoping out on the weekend on some fun trails to go camp it would be excellent.

    Yes I think that will do nicely. I ride a hardcore hardtail for bike packing. I think it works out nicely, but it depends what sort of terrain you’re going to ride. If you’re riding single track this will be great.
