I heard Gocycle’s quality control was bad but bought one any way to complement my Brompton T line. I unboxed it yesterday and found a small chip in the edge of the battery enclosure. For a bike that cost $5k i was hoping to get a top notch new condition bike. This could be one of the first of many problems I’ll be facing with this bike.
I wanted to test drive it but Gocycle’s strict return policy kept me from doing it.
I’m about to return it and get an electric P line. Am I expecting too much from this company?

I was considering a GoCycle to replace my Brompton with NYCeWheels electric kit.
NYCeWheels went out of business a while ago and sourcing new batteries has proven to be a pain. But it is one of the few Brompton kits that can do 20mph. And it’s a great setup.
So when I went hunting, GoCycle kept coming-up as the best option. They actually seem to have favorable reviews overall.
For me, the show-stopper was not being able to use tires of my choice. Seriosuly, voiding a warranty over tires and being forced to use OEM-sourced ones?
The minute that became evident I started to worry about anything else about the bike’s build/design that might be suspect. Opened that door in my mind that starts worrying about other possible gotchas.
Decided on a hard pass, and am gambling instead on GrinTech’s “Coming Soon” new batteries and getting those to work with the NYCeWheels kit. My electric Brommie has been out of commission for over 18 months now.
There’s just so many things to worry about with this bike/company.
$5k+ should come with a guaranteed piece of mind
