I’ve done several previously tours in Oregon: the Coast, the Willamette Valley, Columbia River Gorge, Mount Hood. I really love riding in this state. Good roads, camping and scenic beauty abounds. This year I rode a 450 mile loop: Roseburg > Eugene > Sisters > Bend > Crater Lake > Roseburg. Weather in late June was near perfect. Lots of climbing, but a huge variety in natural scenery, and roads that seemed designed for cycling, especially McKenzie Pass and the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway. The Oregon Coast gets the most accolades, but the Cascades are really special!

The north east corner is pretty cool too. The Grand Tour is another nice Scenic Bikeway.
when i first read this i was confused as to why anyone would think that oregon is “just the coast” then i realized which sub i’m in and yeah i guess most touring cyclists stick to the coast.
but as someone who lived in oregon for a decade, the coast is stunning and *still* only a tiny fraction of the brilliance of the whole state
Your bike implies you are somewhere around 12 feet tall. Why not just walk the 25 or 30 steps it would take to get across the state?

How’s the Rohloff? I was thinking about a Co-Motion because I can get to Eugene and pay for the custom fitting. I was thinking of a chain instead of a belt though, because if I continue toward S. America it would be easier to get a chain. I’ve always wanted to ride the McKenzie pass before it opens to cars, but word is they are paving it this year. Cool color.

I moved from Portland to the Netherlands to ride my bike safer and have actually good city design. It was so worth it, but man do I miss the nature of Oregon.

Completely agree! Different form of travel, but I used to live in Portland and flew a small plane over to Boise and OMG the landscapes out on the eastern side of Oregon are stunning! Georgeous mountain ranges, rock formations that look like they belong in Arizona, beautiful forests, …
I’d basically only explored the western side of the state. Hood river, mt Hood, Bend, the coast, etc.
I’ve since moved away, but definitely want to explore the eastern part of the state by bike/hiking some day.
