What mods + maintenance do you guys recommend I start with to refresh this 15 yr old. Looks like eveything is stock from the previous owner. Other than a wash and lubing the drivetrain all ive done so far is a fresh lizardskin grip and a supercaz bottle cage.
Looking to switch to a 48/17 ratio and perhaps a new saddle.

Looks pretty good, would personally change out the saddle, probably remove the rear brake, I would run clipless mountain bike style SPDs, maybe change stem length to see if longer or shorter works better for you. Check crank bolts for good torque (don’t want to ruin that crankset from an under torqued bolt). Remove the lockring & cog to grease them when you reinstall them, you don’t want them to get seized on. Check for chain wear with the ruler method or using a chain wear indicator.
Depending on the compound and how/ where it was stored, the tires, tubes & maybe rim tape could be dry rotted or otherwise degraded and warrant a replacement. Continental GP5000s or Gatorskins are great recommendations.
