So I took my bike to paint the frame. When resembling I broke one of the chain links so it’s one shorter. The rear derailer doesn’t look like it’s in the same place but I can’t figure out why. The chain is skipping/cracking when I ride, worse in some gears than others… if anyone has advice I’d appreciate it

Well if its one link shorter it means that the mech will be more forward (the bottom part of the cage or the bottom cog will go forward more). And you should be carefull if it the chain goes in the easiest gear in the back while, u have chaing on the big ring in the front.
From the pic it maybeeeee looks like the mech isnt properly on the mech hanger. The “tab” of the mech isn’t “hooked” on the hanger (could be wrong by a mile).
