Gotthardpass can be busy. I’d suggest following Rhein and then taking Lukmanierpass.
Make sure that mountain pass roads are open there was alot of rain that destroyed some.

I’ve tried in Austria in early June. But something with a bunch of snow, a landeslide, and closed roads/paths happened.
