Hey everyone,

I'm in the market for a new mountain bike and could use some advice. I recently received $1300 to find a good bike and have narrowed it down to two options: the Scott Scale 940 2022 and the Scott Scale 965 2024.

Both bikes seem pretty solid, but I'm curious if the newer model year and updated design of the 965 are worth considering over the 940. Additionally, if anyone has other suggestions within the $1300 price range, I'd love to hear them!

What do you all think? Should I go for one of these two bikes, or are there better options out there for the price?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Between the 2, the 2024 model has an update geo. Slacker HTA and steeper seat tube angle. Safer to descend steeper terrain and also offering a better sitting position for climbing steep terrain.

I have a 980 2021 (same as 2022) and i’d pretty much prefer the new one. Also the drivetrain on the 965 2024 is better.

Edit: btw, scott’s site lists the cranks for the 965 as Shimano FC-MT512-1, 55mm CL / 32T but the picture shows praxis cranks. Not sure what’s up with that.
